Desert camps are more comfortable than most people expect. Beds, real mattresses, and increasingly hot showers. What they cannot change is the temperature swing: a 34 °C afternoon can become a 9 °C night in the same twelve hours.
Bring a fleece or a light down jacket. Every single trip, someone borrows a blanket at 3 a.m. Add a scarf — the local chèche is sold everywhere for about 60 DH and does the job of a hat, a dust mask and a pillow.
Shoes: trainers, not sandals. Sand gets between your toes and the strap and turns into sandpaper. Take the sandals for the camp itself.
Electronics: a power bank is essential. Most camps run on solar and switch the generator off after dinner. Bring a small brush for your camera; sensor dust in the dunes is real.
Leave behind: hair dryers, more than two changes of clothes, and any expectation of mobile signal. That last one is the best part.
